The 2025 Nissan Pathfinder has once again earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) TOP SAFETY PICK+ designation, marking the fourth consecutive year the Pathfinder has achieved the organization’s highest safety rating.
This accolade highlights the Pathfinder’s outstanding safety features, even amidst IIHS’s increasingly rigorous testing standards.
"IIHS continues to raise the bar, and Pathfinder continues to meet it. Earning the top rating four years in a row solidifies Pathfinder's reputation as a safe and dependable SUV for families," said Vinay Shahani, senior vice president of U.S. marketing and sales, Nissan Americas. "This award recognizes our commitment to engineering vehicles that perform when it matters most."
In 2024, the IIHS revised its moderate overlap front crash test to incorporate a second dummy representing a small adult or a 12-year-old child positioned behind the driver. This test assesses the injury risk typically faced by second-row passengers.
To qualify for the IIHS Top Safety Pick designation, vehicles must attain an “Acceptable” rating in this test, whereas a “Good” rating is necessary for the Top Safety Pick+ designation.
To qualify for the Top Safety Pick+ award, vehicles must attain "Good" ratings in both the small overlap front and updated side impact tests, and receive "Acceptable" or "Good" ratings in pedestrian front crash prevention, along with standard headlights that are rated as acceptable or good.
The Pathfinder's performance in these demanding tests highlights its extensive array of active and passive safety features.
